Artwork

Artist Janet Dyer displays an impressionist landscape of a scenic mountain path. The woodlands of Provence glow in the brilliance of the warm summer sun. Janet paints the lush shrubbery with vigorous strokes in bold shades of olive and pine green. The muted tones of the pale blue sky bring focus to the flourishing field of budding lavenders.

Janet Dyer

Suffern, New York

Janet Dyer doesn’t like to spend too much time talking about her art, as she’d rather be creating it. She doesn’t have an artist statement, the traditional statement of purpose crafted by visual artists to explain their method. On becoming an artist, Janet simply states, “I picked up some crayons and pencils and brushes and kept using them.” She believes the process of creating art is equal in importance to the final product. The artist enjoys relinquishing control of her paintings to find delightful surprises in her so-called “mistakes.” Janet's expressively gestural yet bucolic landscapes are a testament to the success of her method.

This beautiful work joins our other Jan Dyer paintings, and we celebrate it with true pleasure. Jan’s unique eye, and sense of color and texture, make her one of our favorite artists! Lucky us to own this wonderful work. Sally & Del

Hi Jim! Thanks for looking! I've actually always gone back and forth on the continuum of color--kind of like going up and down the scale for music. I always like to have a little hot pink or orange in there, though. :)

Hey, Janet! I really admire the way you've started to add Fauvist-style hot colors into your expressive landscapes. Wonderful and very exciting work!

Thank you again, Jim! It was really thoughtful of you to post your comment here. I appreciate it (and I like to reread it!).

Hey, Janet... This might be called an aesthetic love letter because I've always wanted to tell you how much I truly admire your landscapes. I come from a graphic design background, both creating it and teaching it at ASU and it's your impeccable sense of design that make you stand out in this dime-a-dozen genre. You never seem to settle for "pleasing" or "pretty" but almost always have a powerful visual "motif" going...dark against light....curved against straight, etc., that is enhanced by simplification and your expressive, minimalist brushwork. I'm trying to say that I consider you a terrific abstract artist beneath your chosen genre. Many accolades and kudos, Janet, and keep those wonderful paintings coming!
