Part of Jane Robinson's signature series of jazz-inspired modernist compositions. Jane listened to the gypsy jazz song Midnight in Paris while she created the piece. "The textural dark sky with a shimmer of stars invokes a sense of a jazz experience in the romantic city of Paris," she says. Gold and silver texture floats in a modernist composition of crimson, blue, grey and black.

Getting to Know Jane

Jane Robinson is a Michigan native who uses fluid acrylic paints to make expressionist, abstract artwork inspired by jazz music. She is particularly influenced by early pioneers of the genre, including John Coltrane, Charlie Parker, and Sonny Clarke. The movement, rhythm, instruments and “color” of the music opens a portal to a world that Robinson captures on canvas. The artist experiments with complex textures–created through layering various mediums–to encourage curiosity in the viewer about what lies beneath. She believes art is an incredible journey that provides endless possibilities to stimulate the senses. Jane subscribes to the concept that art, like jazz, transcends the barriers of geography, culture, and faith.
