Janet Dyer
Suffern, New York
Artist Janet Dyer captures picturesque scenes from her travels in expressive and gestural landscapes. Her work reflects the changes brought on by the seasons, seizing the colors and mood and reinterpreting them into lively compositions. "I believe the process of creating art is equal in importance to the final product," says Janet. She started painting when she was nine and sold her first painting at thirteen at a country fair, where it won first prize. From ages eight to seventeen, she joined countless country fairs and relished seeing her works on display. Growing up in Ohio and Michigan influenced Janet's fascination with wide open spaces. Now living in New York State, she loves to travel whenever she gets the chance and finds inspiration everywhere she goes—particularly farms and France, and farms in France. "Luckily for me, landscapes are everywhere, so I'm spoiled for choice."

Absolutely love it! Just wish the edges were not so ragged and raw and could have been hung as is. It took away from painting. But in a frame I think it looks fantastic!

Hi Jim! Thanks for looking! I've actually always gone back and forth on the continuum of color--kind of like going up and down the scale for music. I always like to have a little hot pink or orange in there, though. :)
Hey, Janet! I really admire the way you've started to add Fauvist-style hot colors into your expressive landscapes. Wonderful and very exciting work!
Thank you again, Jim! It was really thoughtful of you to post your comment here. I appreciate it (and I like to reread it!).
Hey, Janet... This might be called an aesthetic love letter because I've always wanted to tell you how much I truly admire your landscapes. I come from a graphic design background, both creating it and teaching it at ASU and it's your impeccable sense of design that make you stand out in this dime-a-dozen genre. You never seem to settle for "pleasing" or "pretty" but almost always have a powerful visual "motif" going...dark against light....curved against straight, etc., that is enhanced by simplification and your expressive, minimalist brushwork. I'm trying to say that I consider you a terrific abstract artist beneath your chosen genre. Many accolades and kudos, Janet, and keep those wonderful paintings coming!
