The title of this painting, Kairos is a Greek word meaning the right, critical, or opportune moment. It seemed appropriate for my process. As I painted the image I was reacting and responding with immediacy to what was happening in front of me. As I painted, I turned the canvas working it from all sides. It eventually evolved into this abstract landscape.

Getting to Know Karen

Karen’s abstract paintings are best described as an exploration in color. Often monochromatic, her work is a meditative and serene improvisation in the movement and depth of paint. Whether executed in earthy shades or vibrant tones, each painting evokes a different mood for the viewer’s contemplation. Karen’s body of work gives a gentle nod to the Color Field movement of the 20th Century, grounding her portfolio solidly within the evolving story of contemporary art.
