Artwork

Artist Kip Decker displays a group of horses in an outback landscape. Light rays shine through the trees and hit the corral just right. Rain puddles on the ground reflect the cool amber environment. Kip uses drip painting techniques to add a flair to this solemn impression.

Kip Decker

Anderson, South Carolina

Artist Kip Decker paints colorful rural and nature scenes. Inspired by the places he has lived, he creates in a style he describes as lyrical expressionism. Part of his time growing up was on and near farms in upstate New York, and the hills of California and South Carolina, where he now resides. "Over the years, I have taken numerous photos and done many drawings of the country," shares Kip. After Kip obtained his Masters in Fine Arts he taught college art for ten years. His decade-long experience as an art teacher, in turn, trained him to see art objectively, especially in critiquing work. His home studio, located in his basement, is a creative haven. He diligently works on his art, sometimes amidst a creative mess. When he is not painting, he savors spending time with his family and finds solace in bird-watching from a small lake across his street.

We love our new painting! The colors are vibrant and a perfect fit to our Dining Room. I only wish we had another one that matched to make it a diptych.

I feel happy and peaceful when I look at this painting on our wall. It is in the eating area of our kitchen where it adds beautiful vibrant color to the room. A wonderful addition to one of the places in which we spend most of our time in our home! Thank you!

Anita - I am so glad you enjoy the painting! The painting just seemed to come together. Currently I do not have a Westie. I have friends who have two. Most of my friends have dogs - and I am captivated by all of them. At the present time I have a black Scottie. As my vet said - you do not see many of these guys anymore. Thanks for commenting.

KIp, "Two Westies" just arrived at my home this evening and I had to tell you that you captured them beautifully! I have two of my own and so this is an especially important painting for me. (Do you happen to own Westies?). Your wonderful choice of rich colors really made the pair pop; a feat not easily accomplished with little white dogs. Thank you for this creation! Anita, Columbai, SC P.S. I love your new painting of the schnauzer!

This autumn I have started painting a series of autumn color paintings. Maybe it is because I am getting older and I can see how fleeting time is. When you look at the very few days the trees really are dressed in their rich color splendor - it reminds me of many things. At any rate - I am trying to capture the too few days of real glory. One of the things I do remember though is when my father passed away - it was real blow to me. He was a writer - and a wonderful dad. When considering my career choice and it was between writing and art - he told me to be an artist. "It is easier" he said. I can remember him doing about three paintings. I wonder about that sometimes. And at this point I always choose to remember him when he was a middle aged man full of life and vigor. When I see trees dressed out in their splendor - that seems to be the moment I like to remember and celebrate them. With their rich colors - it truly is a time of celebration. This is what I

"Sailing Grace" is now hung in my house. Your three sail boats light up the room. I think you have a great ability to combine simplicity with beautiful colors and abundance of light. I love your work. Thank you.

your works are truly amazing it is as if you have been painting the south shore coast past Boston. I have seen those colors, and felt those grasses been under those skies. the shapes. your art isn't lyrical it's as we see nature every day. Someday I will have your works around me and my grandchildren will know we love this earth, the trees all you painted. You must come to this area shivers would overcome you as to how well you expressed this area. Have you ever been here do you plan to come? I live close to the cape. You savored it and gave other people a chance to capture a glimps of it. Thank you. Soon we must talk and you must tell me about the paintings I would like to own.

Thanks for looking at my portfolio. These images are on the one hand familiar and on the other hand I hope fresh and exciting - using color and texture in a pleasing and stimulating way.
