After I visited Cuba several years ago I had a better understanding and sympathy for what it must have been like for "boat people" leaving there. With that awareness I seemed to meet many family members of immigrants and began to feel how grateful most of them were to have the chance to live in Florida. I like making pictures of these people who remind me of how much I have to be thankful for.

Getting to Know Laura

Laura Robinson’s colorful, modernist compositions are inspired by her worldly travels. The bright palette seen in her current work is an homage to her time living in South America, and specifically her voyage back to her native Florida via the Caribbean. Her focus on architectural motifs draws from her experience living in Miami and the distinctive art deco cityscape of South Beach. Each work from Laura’s oeuvre is an eclectic compilation of the people and landscapes she’s encountered, and the resulting personal stories she’s accumulated.
