Balance is the defining expression of this painting. The location of the black and the red areas could have made the balance uneven, but the neutral blocks of color secure them. Also, the intersecting black areas are broken up with colorful points of interest. This piece is on a gallery wrapped canvas and the painting continues around the sides. It comes ready to hang.

Getting to Know Robert

After painting for years out of the family room of his home, Robert took the plunge and built an addition to his home for proper studio space. He works in two very different styles, producing both color-blocked abstracts and realist landscapes. Robert begins each painting by creating a thumbnail value sketch to establish a composition. Each piece reflects his mood, but whether energetic or placid, the colors must always be harmonious. Robert’s technique uses mostly brushes with the occasional addition of palette knives to create subtle surface texture.
