This is a small study for a possible larger painting. I am playing with mid-century 'art moderne' styles while stressing the abstract aspects of the shapes particularly the sails. This painting is coated with an epoxy resin which gives it an extremely lustrous and glossy surface that does not really show in the photos - imagine there is a sheet of water on top of the image and you will get the idea.

This piece is on a gallery wrapped canvas with finished edges. It comes ready to hang.

Getting to Know Joe

Each of Joe Davis’ paintings excites the eye with a distinctive liveliness. His bright color palette gives his compositions a fantastical warmth and playfulness. Joe explores the ways that an overhead perspective can render everyday scenes into marvelous abstraction. Kites, sails, and umbrellas become super simplified forms that seem to almost dissolve into the scene, elevating each canvas with glamor and sophistication. These abstracted forms evade minute details in a way that resembles the joys of reminiscing. His paintings have a lighthearted mood that fondly recall happy days spent at the beach.
