Lisa Carney
Ste-Anne-Des-Plaines, Canada

Lisa Carney draws her inspiration from the earth’s layers and the history they hold. The drips, splashes, scrapes and scratches in her art happen spontaneously and come together to create a cohesive whole. She began to craft a more organic feel in her works after noticing the texture in her works resembled plant roots. She currently lives in Canada and admires artists like Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko and Barnett Newman.

New Year! New Creations! Monday, I started my first 2013 paintings. After a couple of weeks without being in the studio painting, let me tell you, it was comforting to get back into my little routine. For the last few months I have been experimenting a lot. A new body of work is in development. (I think I will keep them for my next Solo show at “La maison Borduas” coming in May). As I work on 2 or three paintings at a time, I will still be making more GeoHorizon paintings. So more art will be coming here!!!

Comments About This Piece

This is a large original modern abstract painting created in a color palette of red, beige and white. It is part of a series called "GeoHorizon," a series of minimalist landscape paintings that focus on imaginary slices of earth. The painting is on gallery wrapped canvas with finished white edges. It comes varnished and ready to hang.

Acrylic painting

Acrylic paint was made commercially available in the 1950’s. Acrylic is a fast drying paint that can be diluted with water, but becomes water-resistant when dry. Acrylics can be applied in thin layers and washes to resemble watercolor paints, or they can be applied in thick layers, built up for texture. The main difference between oil and acrylic paint is the drying time. Oil dries slowly, allowing more time to blend colors and apply glazes. Artists who use acrylic paints typically work faster than those who use oils. Additionally, acrylics offer more versatility and are often used for mixed media work. Artists can mix different materials into the paint, such as sand or rice. They can also apply other media on top of the dried acrylic, such as pastel or pen.

Stretched canvas

Canvas is a heavy-duty fabric used as a painting surface. When a canvas artwork is labeled stretched, it means the canvas has been wrapped around a wooden frame (the ''stretcher''). Stretched canvases typically do not require framing.

A one-of-a-kind artwork is a unique piece handmade by the artist. There is only one in existence. The work may be part of a series, however, the piece itself is unlike any other. This piece is available exclusively at UGallery.
