This painting is part of an ongoing "Ethereal Abstraction" series. I paint standing up with the painting lying flat so I can control the paint application better. Using fluid acrylics I apply layers of color, scraping, scratching, and painting back into it to reveal subtle texture, color, shape, and patterns. This piece is on gallery wrapped canvas and the painting continues around the sides. It comes varnished and ready to hang.

Getting to Know Patrick

Patrick O’Boyle primarily paints in a studio, rarely using reference material other than his own thoughts and dreams. He always paints in a series of five; at the end of the fifth painting he revisits and reworks all of them until he feels they’re complete. Using extra-long handles on his brushes, Patrick paints at a distance from the canvas so he can see the works evolve as a whole from the one color he starts with to the vibrant array at the end. When he’s not making art, Patrick spends time with his wife and three kids, lifts weights, rows, and plays soccer. Fun fact: Patrick was an All American soccer player in college.
