This highly textured expressionistic painting is full of movement. In exactly the same stunning colors that I have seen the ocean many times during my strolls along the shore on days with heavy wind. For the texture, I used extra heavy gesso paste, glass beads, and a little crackle paste. This piece is on a gallery wrapped canvas and the painting continues around the sides. It comes varnished and ready to hang.

Getting to Know Hilma

Hilma Koelman has traveled the world, but always found herself coming back to the ocean. Her years living in Curacao, a tropical island in the Caribbean, provided endless inspiration for her art, from the deep turquoise of the water to the colorful buildings of the island. Now living in South Florida, Hilma uses her abstract paintings to express her passion and energy. She may go through states of happiness, struggling, or insecurity when she’s creating a work of art, but she always arrives at a feeling of satisfaction, at which point she knows the painting is finished.
