Jane created this modern abstract in one studio session. She applied paint in confident sweeping strokes, inspired by drifting along Lake Michigan in her kayak. Light and dark blues, green and a touch of the gold recall a vivid, peaceful sunset on the water.
Jane Robinson is a Michigan native who uses fluid acrylic paints to make expressionist, abstract artwork inspired by jazz music. She is particularly influenced by early pioneers of the genre, including John Coltrane, Charlie Parker, and Sonny Clarke. The movement, rhythm, instruments and “color” of the music opens a portal to a world that Robinson captures on canvas. The artist experiments with complex textures–created through layering various mediums–to encourage curiosity in the viewer about what lies beneath. She believes art is an incredible journey that provides endless possibilities to stimulate the senses. Jane subscribes to the concept that art, like jazz, transcends the barriers of geography, culture, and faith.
