Artwork

"This piece was done about the same time I was making a painting titled Davenport," says Glenn. "They're both meant to be sort of light-hearted and explore interesting color relationships. Cleopatra is very much an improvisational piece. I see her kind of bored at some sort of reception, just staring off into the distance and biding her time - something I think a lot of us can relate to."

Glenn Quist

Elk River, Minnesota

Glenn Quist is a full-time artist in Elk River, Minnesota, near the Twin Cities metropolitan area. His elongated modernist figures appear in scenes derived from both memory and imagination with a strong emphasis on color and composition. Glenn considers his paintings to be "somewhere between dreams and reality." Opposed to telling stories directly, he prefers to present his work and leave the interpretation to the viewer.

Thank you Glenn for this amazing artwork! I love to see her so relaxed after a long day, and I specially love that she left the fancy shoes and bag behind to relax! The colors are stunning too. I hanged in our bedroom and I smile every time I see it. I look forward to acquiring other pieces from you!

Hi Glenn- Just received "Red Pool Baptism'' and was delighted with it- the colors, finish and theme were all outstanding and I will certainly follow your work. Cheers, Frank

Thank you so much. I think you understand perfectly. As I was working on this painting I incorporated some challenging uses of space and color but I wanted to end up with what initially appears to be a calm and simple image. I enjoyed it and am really happy to hear that you do as well.

We're enjoying this painting we just received, the planter. I like the harmony of colors with sharp modernist angles - a neat mix. Thank you Glenn!

A lovely piece. (Do I dare say I'm amused by the fish-shaped umbrella?)I really like your work.

I think your comments are wonderful. Something I enjoy so much about creating art is the constantly changing nature of the picture itself in the way different people see and understand them (the paintings). I never set out to be specific with an idea or a message when I paint. I try to let things come to me and hope to let the artwork speak for itself and I love to hear how others see and interpret what I do. I really do appreciate how you're willing to share with me.

I think we see ( in art ) whatever needs to be brought to the foreground...as in dreams. For you, perhaps it's fear of the uncontrollable, and for me, my comment totally came as a surprise as some truth was revealed in black and white. I suspect the same might be true for M's comment below. Who knows.

You're correct. It IS amusing but certainly as plausible as anything I've come up with. I look at this painting everyday. Here in Minnesota there have been torrential rains and a lot of flooding in parts of the state. Now I see that each time I see the painting. I like your thoughts better.

See, now I think the blonde is in love with the man, who is already in a relationship. Unexpectedly, the three meet at the bridge while out walking one afternoon...This is quite amusing. Very nice work, Glenn.

Thank you so much. That is exactly the kind of input that I treasure.

I love your style Glenn, This is what I read into this painting, :) The blonde women .... she is consulting with her brother and his wife, .....should she leave her husband. The sister-in-law with her gentle exterior looks off into the distance, being supportive, but not intrusive.

Love it! The folk art/americana style of a sports classic puts a smile on my face every time I pass it!
