A warm poppy field in late afternoon. The sun is diffused by hazy clouds. Robert painted the field and flowers primarily with a palette knife while using brushes for the sky and background. To balance the sky with the landscape, he used yellow throughout the composition.

Getting to Know Robert

After painting for years out of the family room of his home, Robert took the plunge and built an addition to his home for proper studio space. He works in two very different styles, producing both color-blocked abstracts and realist landscapes. Robert begins each painting by creating a thumbnail value sketch to establish a composition. Each piece reflects his mood, but whether energetic or placid, the colors must always be harmonious. Robert’s technique uses mostly brushes with the occasional addition of palette knives to create subtle surface texture.
