"I love the rich transparent tones of that rusty brown pigment called iron oxide," says Karen Hansen. "And that’s where I started, adding other earth tones as I moved through the piece. With the addition of several shades of orange the image explodes."
Karen’s abstract paintings are best described as an exploration in color. Often monochromatic, her work is a meditative and serene improvisation in the movement and depth of paint. Whether executed in earthy shades or vibrant tones, each painting evokes a different mood for the viewer’s contemplation. Karen’s body of work gives a gentle nod to the Color Field movement of the 20th Century, grounding her portfolio solidly within the evolving story of contemporary art.
