While hiking in the woods outside a friend's home in Missouri, I was entranced by the Fall sunlight playing on the display of yellows, oranges, and golds of leaves both above us in the trees and crunching beneath our feet. Autumnal colors were used in multiple pours of transparent and vibrant acrylic on canvas to create its layered depth.

From childhood on, Dorothy was always eager about painting. Her grandfather encouraged her to graduate from a finger-painting enthusiast to a more mature and serious artist. Dorothy’s approach to her abstract artwork entails pouring paint in transparent layers to create sweeping colors across the canvas. Regardless, she manages to stay true to her childhood roots: “To this day, my clothes and hands always reflect the colors I am working with,” says Dorothy. “And I once again rediscovered the joys of finger-painting with my children!”
