What is the most private part of a person? During my visit to Italy, I was shocked by the masks worn everywhere. The Venetians used vibrant colors and beautiful feathers to carefully decorate such little objects, and then wore them to cover their faces. This tradition has lasted for hundreds of years, but what is it that they are truly concealing with the masks? I believe that people cover their faces to hide their thoughts and desires, because the face can show one's inner thoughts. I attempt to shed light on this phenomenon through my paintings. Within the messy brushstrokes and floating exaggerated colors, the body is exposed. These paintings may seem like graffiti at first, but that is simply on the surface; it is a style of painting used to conceal something else.
