Sumiyo Toribe
Millbury, Massachusetts

Sumiyo Toribe hopes that viewers will feel the energy and beauty of nature through her works. Besides nature, she also finds inspiration in her children and her Japanese culture. As an art instructor, she gives private and group lessons. If you want to watch her process, you can check her videos out on YouTube. Listen closely to the videos' music — she often plays her own music or composes music on GarageBand. During her free time, she enjoys playing flute, baking, and training in Kung Fu. She currently lives in Massachusetts. Fun fact: she created one painting a day for four years, from September 2009 to September 2013.

Comments About This Piece

Daily painting makes me search for beautiful sights and the wonders of life. My thoughts, feelings and experiences are depicted each day. The fall season is one of my favorite times of the year, filled with beautiful, warm, bright colors and a little sentimentality. This painting captures a wintry scene in New England, where the last reaches of autumn can still be detected in the snowfall.

Watercolor painting

Watercolor paint is made of pigments suspended in a water-based solution. Watercolor, which refers to both the medium and the finished artwork, is typically applied to paper. It is translucent, and appears luminous on the surface of the paper. Watercolor painting is a very old medium, dating back to the Renaissance when it was used primarily for botanical and wildlife illustration.

Paper

Paper is a very common surface for all types of artwork, including photography, printmaking, drawing and painting. Art paper varies in thickness and color. Read the notes section to learn more about the paper used to create this artwork. If not noted as framed, most paper artwork will require framing.

One-of-a-kind

A one-of-a-kind artwork is a unique piece handmade by the artist. There is only one in existence. The work may be part of a series, however, the piece itself is unlike any other. This piece is available exclusively at UGallery.
