Tete Silva
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Tete Silva is a street photographer working in Brazil. Her subjects are the things you would expect to see on the streets of a big city: a flower market, street vendors, or colorful festivals. However, she captures the streets in a way you may not instinctively notice or appreciate with your own eye. With a first person point of view, Tete’s compositions have a unique sense of framing, focusing in on texture, such as the surface of a shiny trombone, a clown’s shoes, or the smoke from a street vendor. Rather than just experiencing and swiftly shooting the action of the street, Tete brings the viewer into the details of her experience. She methodically captures pieces of the city and translates them into art, so that they exist independently of the moment. Tete is a member of the Brazilian street photography collective Flanares. The group’s name comes from the French word “Flâneur,” associated with the observant idler or open-eyed wanderer.
