Curator Review
artist statement

Due to the increasing nature of an object’s subjectivity in relation to how the content of a work is presented, imagery has perpetuated itself into a state of superfluous representation where almost everything involved acts accordingly to a set standard of aesthetic configuration. The manner in which our perception dictates reality relies primarily upon individual experiences, as well as the willingness to accommodate for such moments given the circumstances. Considering certain principles of identification, specifically those associated with simulacrum – that of which is never true – I wish to transcend the prescribed elements of simulation in order to articulate a transitory actuality, one that is able to confront the viewer towards feelings of uncertainty rather than apparent connotation.

In response to the continuous methodology that encompasses the materiality defining that of which is a ”painting”, I find myself inclined to bridge the gap between what has already been fragmented – the delineation of boundaries. Through the experimentation of chance happenings pertaining to the use of mediums and process, a separation begins to emerge where no longer the artist is in control of what the outcome is, but how it comes to be. Can a piece of work exist intrinsically outside of boundaries by transgressing the already pre-conceived notions of visual appropriation? Is there a way in which a discernible image can become completely eradicated of identity, perhaps replaced with subtle distinctions of texture or sound, as a result leaving room for dialogue to reciprocate among the viewer and the work presented? These ideas along with several unresolved issues referencing a theoretical approach towards color can account for an accumulation of further progression.
