My work explores themes of femininity, sexuality, and beauty through the depiction of women in the realist tradition of oil painting. I paint from life and from original photographs, taken in my home-studio. Using traditional techniques, I begin with a detailed drawing on canvas that indicates the overall composition and where the shadows fall on the subject. I paint with Winsor Newton Oil colors on canvas and use walnut oil as my only medium. I create an under-painting using burnt umber, raw sienna and white to add depth to shadow and light and enrich the flesh tones of the figure. Finally, I lay in the color, starting with darker tones and building up toward the lights, adding more detail with every successive layer until the figure is complete.
