This parody of Asian calligraphy resulted from the frustration I recently felt when I took a workshop in Japanese calligraphy. Because I was unfamiliar with how the Japanese characters were meant to look, I unwittingly made errors in spacing, balance and symmetry. Later, while eating cherry tomatoes off the vine, I noticed how much the leaves and stems resembled the calligraphy marks I had struggled over. The red screenprinted chop mark reads, "Toh mah toh"
