I'm inspired by a sense of joy in daily life - all of those beautiful small moments that need to be noticed. My process includes painting directly from still life set ups, botanical imagery and landscapes of places dear to me. It's a way to play with color, pattern, light and texture. I often use polka dot grids as a way to refer to the order and grace that seem to permeate our world.
I include other voices in my work by using collage mixed in with the paint. It's a way of expanding the image and scope of references. Found text and bits from maps, dictionaries, poetry or vintage encyclopedias are woven into the paint like all of the influences and thoughts that work their way into the act of looking.
