This photograph is part of an open edition. The image is 18" x 11" and the paper measures 24" w x 17" h. The work has not been digitally manipulated on a computer--all of the effects you see were created with my camera.
I took this photograph with a digital panoramic camera of my own design. The camera was originally conceived for 360 degree panoramic shots. In conventional use, the image is built up of a series of narrow vertical stripes during the camera’s rotation. However, to produce this image, I disabled the turning motor.
These photographs are a kind of time exposure where only one tiny slice of reality is imaged at any given moment. Only moving or changing objects register as clear. Static objects are rendered as lines across the picture plane. This is the opposite of what you would expect with traditional photography, where moving objects are blurred and still objects are clear.
