Artist

Kathleen Finlay
Hudson, Canada

Kathleen Finlay studied drawing and painting as a student, but it was photography that caught her attention. She began photographing almost 25 years ago and loves the immediacy of the medium. A lot of her travel work is influenced by Henri Cartier-Bresson, Sarah Moon and Edward Steichen. Lately she finds herself sculpting with clay and painting when she’s not photographing. She recently moved to Paris. Fun fact: she has flown back and forth from Canada and Paris four times in the last few months. As she puts it: “that’s a lot of bad airplane meals.”

I gave this to my son for his 21st birthday. We both love it, for its mystery and serenity and sense of permanence. I framed it with a black mat, which loves beautiful.
