MORE ABOUT THIS PRINT
Alex Greenburg lives above a motorcycle shop in the Mission District in San Francisco. His professed dream is to make his life a work of art, and he is well on his way. His home, called "The SUB," is an old garage that he converted into a gallery, concert venue, and opulent kitchen (piles of sweet potatoes and parsnips atop the counter). If you visit his space and bribe him with a burrito, Alex will be sure to share one of his photo slideshows with you, an elaborate production and a form of presentation he views as crucial to understanding his work.
Alex was born in Boston and raised in Upland, California, but says he really "grew up" while studying the photography of William Eggleston at Stanford University. This photograph is a portrait of his college roommate, Anuk:
"He was riding his bicycle back from class to our shared home, The Enchanted Broccoli Forest. It was just after lunch, and I was wandering out back around our basketball court with my camera when I saw him coming up the path in the bright afternoon light. In my eyes, Anuk's beauty and antiquated style bring into being a timeless and magnetic aesthetic, and I'd made previous attempts to distill his magnetic presence. This day, however, the light was sculpting his form and vivifying all the colors I could see: the blue of his shirt, the variations of browns and tans in his skin and pants and seat, and the brilliant glittering gold of his suspenders. I directed him to the dry dead grass field adjacent to the court and told him to sit still while I readied my camera. It was then, in this moment purported transition, that I stole an exposure behind his back. People look best when they're unaware and in their element, caught in pure unconscious action."

|
|
These prints are created using archival pigment inks on the world's first eco-friendly
fine art paper - a smooth, natural white bamboo paper. With proper care, our prints
will remain vibrant for more than 100 years.
We hand-pick original artworks from our collection that we think you'll love, including
paintings, photography, printmaking, and digital art. Our expert print team then
digitally scans these pieces to create museum quality, eco-conscious prints.

LIMITED EDITION
|
|
|
Certain pieces of artwork on UGallery, mostly photography and printmaking, are labeled as either limited edition or open edition. Pieces that are in a limited edition are produced in a set limited quantity. Open edition artworks are not limited in quantity and can be reproduced indefinitely. In both cases, each piece in the edition is identical and is considered an original. Limited edition works are generally more valuable because of the limited number available. This piece is available exclusively at UGallery.

ARCHIVAL CUSTOM FRAMING
|
|
Our beautiful, high-quality custom frames are perfect for displaying and protecting
your prints. Each frame is certified "conservation quality," which means our framers
use a hinge mount to connect your print to an acid-free, archival mat.
Every print is matted in a beveled, double-thick white mat that is cut to perfectly
fit the print. There are at least three inches of matting on each side of the image
to ensure the art is presented in an optimal way--mat borders will vary slightly
based on the actual image size. All of our frames are finished on the back with
protective paper and rubber bumpers and come ready to hang.
