The FIU College of Medicine Mammography Art Initiative, in collaboration with the Patricia and Phillip Frost Museum, held a fund raising event on October the 11th. A selection of art pieces were auctioned off and the proceeds went towards a research fund benefiting breast cancer education and care in Miami. Click to see pictures from the event and a lineup of the well known artist who participated. My piece entitled "What's left of me", pastel on paper, 60"x42" was auctioned off to a head of industry and patron of the arts.

I won the Bombay Sapphire Miami trophy, competing against a flurry of talented artists from South Florida. As a result, I will be representing Miami at SCOPE this year, one of the world's most prestigious art fairs held during Basel Art Week, the most renowned and sought after art show, considered by artists and buyers alike as the Mecca of contemporary art. You will find my work showcased at Scope. Slated to win the national competition, I will have a solo exhibit at Scope NYC and my own mural in Wynwood in Miami, famous for its street art and arguably boasting the best murals of any city.

Comments About This Piece

Triumphant, the Monkey God of the third Chakra Manipura announces his presence. Wreathed in the flames of anger, bursting forth with the certainty of knowing his place in the world, he is a reminder of your right to exist on this Earthly plane. His fierce eyes burn with the intent of manifestation, flashing through the flames. Atop his head rests the golden crown of Hanuman, adorned with the symbol of Manipura. Strong colors and an effort to add contrast allow the figure to come forward. Special attention was given to the tongue and jaws. The overall ferociousness is exaggerated by the strong, warm colors of the gums and tongue, appearing almost three-dimensional. High quality chalk pastels were used on water color paper. Great detail was achieved as well as vibrant texture using pastel techniques. "Hanuman" is an unmounted work on paper and will require a frame in order to hang.

Paper is a very common surface for all types of artwork, including photography, printmaking, drawing and painting. Art paper varies in thickness and color. Read the notes section to learn more about the paper used to create this artwork. If not noted as framed, most paper artwork will require framing.

A one-of-a-kind artwork is a unique piece handmade by the artist. There is only one in existence. The work may be part of a series, however, the piece itself is unlike any other. This piece is available exclusively at UGallery.
