Artist

David Ballinger
Plainfield, Indiana

David Ballinger carefully plans out his papercut artworks. He oftentimes works with stencils and spray paint and admires artists like Shepard Fairey, Banksy and Logan Hicks. The artist currently lives in Indiana where he teaches art at a middle school. When he’s not painting, he enjoys spending time with his family. Fun fact: Yoko Ono owns two of his paintings.

Comments About This Piece

This piece was meticulously planned and hand cut with an x-acto knife using heavyweight 140 lb watercolor paper. The four layers of colored paper are stacked on top of each other in order to create an optical illusion of cubes receding and approaching the viewer. Every cut was precisely planned. The optical illusion, as well as the time and effort put into the piece, make for a stunning effect. "In or Out?" is a work on paper and will need to be framed in order to hang.
