Artist

Diana Elena Chelaru
Tappan, New York

Diana Elena Chelaru uses dotted clusters of color to give a distinct character to outdoor scenes. Her works resemble art made through the technique of pointillism, where the artist places many small dots on the canvas to depict a subject. Nature and the human body oftentimes spark her creativity. She currently lives in New York and finds inspiration in the work of Impressionist artists. Fun fact: she loves hearing about what others see in her paintings, especially if it’s different from her own original vision.

Dear Mr Iceton - I am sorry for the delay in getting back to you but I had a full week. I had the opening for a group show here in New York and I am getting ready for a personal show at the end of August. I am really happy to know that you enjoy The Gossipers and if you would like to know more about the painting (I usually have a “back story” for my works)or in general about my art work please let me know. Thank you again for taking the time in getting back to me. Best regards, Diana Chelaru

Ms. Garcia - Thank you so much for you appreciation! It means a lot to me. It makes me feel so good to know that once again my work speaks to the viewer. In my work I always emphasize on the color as a significant and unifying element and I always try to find a delicate balance between reality and ideas. Most of my art depicts the human form; I believe that human body is a universal symbol and can communicate a whole variety emotion. Thank you again! Best wishes, Diana

Hi Diana, I love your artwork on the site! I love the sense of movement in the more vibrant pieces and even the more somber, contemplative pieces have a flow of energy. How did you develop your unique style?

Comments About This Piece

This painting is a result of my imagination. I first decided on a theme - youth - and then as an exercise of my imagination I got this as the final result. These young, shy girls sit on flowers that are beginning to bud—just like them. I decided to use a color scheme similar to spring to sustain the theme through the painting. This piece is painted on gallery wrapped canvas with the sides painted white. It comes ready to hang.

Oil painting

Oil paint uses natural oils, such as linseed, poppy and walnut oil to bind the pigments. Oils are slow to dry, which allows the artist to rework the painting to achieve the desired effect. Also, they blend easily, which helps to achieve certain colors. With the rise of naturalism in 15th century Early Netherlandish painting, oil paints became preferred to quick drying tempera paint. Artists wanted a medium that would allow them to achieve detailed and precise effects in their paintings. Consider all of the detail in the masterpieces of Jan van Eyck and Hieronymus Bosch!

Stretched canvas

Canvas is a heavy-duty fabric used as a painting surface. When a canvas artwork is labeled stretched, it means the canvas has been wrapped around a wooden frame (the ''stretcher''). Stretched canvases typically do not require framing.

One-of-a-kind

A one-of-a-kind artwork is a unique piece handmade by the artist. There is only one in existence. The work may be part of a series, however, the piece itself is unlike any other. This piece is available exclusively at UGallery.
