Lucy Pack enjoys fun facts. For instance, she has never eaten ketchup, is named after Lucille Ball, and just saw Star Wars for the first time. This fascination with peculiarities finds its way into her work. In her portraits of various groups, Lucy focuses on the quirks that time lets slip away.

The inspiration for this series came when Lucy decided to paint a photo she found of a troop of Boy Scouts from the 1940’s. Lucy says she was fascinated by how little she new about this group and their lives. As she continued painting, she learned more about each person by studying their stance and facial expressions and began to consider the line between knowing a person and knowing a mere fact about them. Her abstract faces play with this line of knowing and not knowing, as they simultaneously preserve her subjects' expressions while also maintaining their anonymity. While Lucy's goal is to paint a wide range of groups, she feels that inevitably these groups are all based upon her personal knowledge and experience.

Lucy grew up in Dallas but now lives in New York City. She splits her time between hanging out with Seymour (her cat) and working as a barista, illustrator, and writer. She earned her undergraduate degree at Sarah Lawrence College and is currently enrolled in the MFA program at Parsons The New School for Design.
