Thinking About Dessert, 2011

oil painting on stretched canvas
24" h x 30" w x 1.5" d
5 lbs. 0 oz.
notes:

This painting was inspired by Vincent Van Gogh's Potato Eater's painting. I had finally been able to see it in real life last year when I visited the Van Gogh museum in Amsterdam. It is my favorite painting of his. The family in it is a hard-working family, though they seem to live a very simple life. Despite the lack of luxury in their dining room, they are close and fortunate to be able to share what they have with the people they care most about. The scene reminded me of dinners at my own grandmother's house because of the colors in her dining room and often dim lighting. This is my uncle thinking about what to eat for dessert.
