Sara Sisun
Denver, Colorado

Sara Sisun composes dark, mysterious scenes and portraits that often feel surreal. She currently lives in San Francisco and takes inspiration from Flemish portraits and contemporary Spanish paintings. Her everyday life also inspires her work and she hopes to create at least one large scale figure this year. Fun fact: she once used an owl as her model!

Many years ago, I was stationed at the Presidio, so when my eye fell on this piece, I felt an instant "recognition"!

Thank you so much! The positive feedback is very meaningful, especially to the edgier, riskier work. Let me know if you need any detail images of teapot, or if you would like to see similar paintings, I don't have all of them up here. keep in touch, Sara

Dear sara, you are quite talented for such a young artist! at first i was afraid you did only small pieces until I saw your "Bloody Merry" and Bohemin Club. WOW! I'm interested in buying the "teapot". My brother is in LA and San fran alot so I'll get some feedback from him. please don't stop taking creative risks because that's when you seem to be at your best and most sincere.

Comments About This Piece

This piece was inspired by an encounter I had with a deer while driving in Yosemite. The deer (probably a baby) jumped in front of my car. Fortunately, I was driving slowly and I did not hit it. The deer’s illuminated body, caught in my headlights, halted me! The image of a deer in fall foliage, illuminated by a bright headlamp or headlight, struck me as a powerful image to paint. This piece has very thick impasto texture and warm colors. The painting is on a wood board. It comes wired to hang, but would also look great framed.

Oil painting

Oil paint uses natural oils, such as linseed, poppy and walnut oil to bind the pigments. Oils are slow to dry, which allows the artist to rework the painting to achieve the desired effect. Also, they blend easily, which helps to achieve certain colors. With the rise of naturalism in 15th century Early Netherlandish painting, oil paints became preferred to quick drying tempera paint. Artists wanted a medium that would allow them to achieve detailed and precise effects in their paintings. Consider all of the detail in the masterpieces of Jan van Eyck and Hieronymus Bosch!

One-of-a-kind

A one-of-a-kind artwork is a unique piece handmade by the artist. There is only one in existence. The work may be part of a series, however, the piece itself is unlike any other. This piece is available exclusively at UGallery.
