Judy Mackey finds inspiration in color - the combinations of colors and what she can do with them. Judy took inspiration from a bouquet she received to create this painting. She added an aqua background to pair with the red and peach roses, bringing life and playfulness to the still scene.
To create this piece, Judy used a palette knife explaining, "I like the way the paints mix into each other as I lay the thick layers of it on with the knife." If you look closely, you can see slashes of color hiding in the painting, adding energy and depth.
Judy was born in Yokohama, Japan and lived there most of her life as a Military Brat, her father an American, her mother Japanese, with one foot in each culture. She moved to the U.S. when she was a young adult to be with her fiancé. "I like paintings that tell a story in a very simple form, minimalistic form," Judy says. "I don't give a lot of information in the paintings but just enough so that the viewer can add their interpretation to the story."
