Roger Alderman
Tucson, Arizona

Roger Alderman works with a palette knife and an Impressionistic style to create his interpretations of nature. Many of his works hint at a large setting, with grand mountains and endless skies in the background. He currently lives in Arizona and is inspired by the landscapes of the American Southwest, and hopes his works capture the essence and spirit of the landscape.

Hello Roger, Your Aspen works are stunning. We live in Tucson and spend our summers in Angel Fire New Mexico. You have captured the feeling I get when in the aspen forests of Mt Lemon and Angel Fire. I see from the posts below that some of these were marked down 50%. Is that price still available? Looking for a painting for above the mantel for our home in Angel fire. approx. 36x36 or 40hx36w

Hey Roger, Thanks so much for returning my inquiry! I would love to commission something with you but if you will give me a little time to decide on size and subject, that would be great. Just to let you know, I do enjoy clouds with a mountainous landscape in the distance, probably more New Mexico than Arizona and cacti although you do have beautiful paintings of saguaros. I will let the people at UGallery know when I have my Ideas together.

Roger Alderman 8/19/2015 | 11:22 AM

Dear M Jackson, Yes I do work on commission and I would be happy to work with you on any painting and size you have in mind with my palette knife technique. There is a great tutorial on how the commission process works on the Ugallery header. Click on commissions and then the link (here) to learn how the process works. Just contact them with the details on the form provided that you would like me to do a commission and provide the information. I'm excited that you like my paintings and I look forward to working with you. Thank you for your compliments and interest! Best, Roger

Hi Nancy, It has been some time since you commented on my painting Joy Of Spring. I just wanted to let you know that painting is still available and currently discounted at 20% for the next several days. Also, I just posted another painting that I think you might be interested in called Spring Radiance in the new arrivals. Thanks you for your interest. Roger

Hi Roger, I enjoy your work and may buy more in the future. However, like everyone else, I have to live within a budget. Years ago I spent time in Tucson - A beautiful place.

Roger Alderman 1/6/2014 | 9:19 PM

Hi Don, I was just looking at my page on Ugallery and just realized that you had purchased "Sunburst". I hope you are enjoying that painting. I think it is one of my better pieces. I have a new piece on there now on the "new art" link. It is a large painting of an aspen forest called "Forest Loop Trail" and I think it is one of my better pieces as well. Thank you very much for your comment "evocative of nature". I always try to get to the spirit of the place and that means a lot to me. Thanks, Roger

Roger Alderman 9/26/2013 | 9:58 PM

Hi, Several months ago you expressed an interest in a 16 x20 oil painting that I have listed with Ugallery titled "Aspen Charmer". If you are still interested, I have reduced the price on that painting to $900 and have recently posted a nice 12x9 aspen tree oil painting titled "Forest Stream" priced at $475. Thanks, Roger

Roger Alderman 3/6/2013 | 10:06 PM

Hi, I'm glad you like "Aspen Charmer". This is a very colorful and energetic painting done on location en plein air with a palette knife. I have many years of experience painting outdoors and have been painting exclusively with a palette knife for some time. Let me know if you have a questions about my technique or background. The nice part about Ugallery is that you can look at this painting risk free with out any expense to you. Again, Thank you so much for your interest. Best Regards, Roger

Comments About This Piece

This captures a piece of history in Tucson. It is a painting of Tucson's rapidly disappearing barrio. A lot of the old town still exists with many colorful buildings. This is a palette knife painting and is very colorful with a vibrant surface. It is on gallery wrapped canvas and the painting continues around the edges. It is varnished, wired, and ready to hang or it could be framed.

Oil painting

Oil paint uses natural oils, such as linseed, poppy and walnut oil to bind the pigments. Oils are slow to dry, which allows the artist to rework the painting to achieve the desired effect. Also, they blend easily, which helps to achieve certain colors. With the rise of naturalism in 15th century Early Netherlandish painting, oil paints became preferred to quick drying tempera paint. Artists wanted a medium that would allow them to achieve detailed and precise effects in their paintings. Consider all of the detail in the masterpieces of Jan van Eyck and Hieronymus Bosch!

Stretched canvas

Canvas is a heavy-duty fabric used as a painting surface. When a canvas artwork is labeled stretched, it means the canvas has been wrapped around a wooden frame (the ''stretcher''). Stretched canvases typically do not require framing.

One-of-a-kind

A one-of-a-kind artwork is a unique piece handmade by the artist. There is only one in existence. The work may be part of a series, however, the piece itself is unlike any other. This piece is available exclusively at UGallery.
