I am currently slowly painting two women, in two separate paintings, both are smoking and is not tobacco. I can't detach myself from what is happening in the Mexico-US border due to greed for money and power. All my work is in one way or another relatable to current events. I do not believe conceptual art can move us enough as beauty can. Classical oil painting like the one I'm trying to do, with more and more layers of transparencies, has the power to very quickly move us to believing that something is real. The idea then, the same concept that conceptual artists don't want to manufacture with sweat and tears, is enfused with the love and the care I have for the concept. Perhaps, the fact that I do beleive that we can revert the bad things we do out of ignorance, through art, is what gives me the patience to work this pieces very slowly.
