notes:
This piece is a collage of paper cutouts adhered to a book page. The borders are slightly uneven.
The starting point for this series of collages was the discovery of an unusual book, “Behind the Scenes of Tiffany Glassmaking, the Nash Notebooks.” I was captivated by the reproductions of the blown glass objects of Arthur Nash, who worked for Louis C. Tiffany in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The sepia-like tones of the pictures appealed to me, as I generally work with few colors. I was inspired to add cut paper additions to enhance the impression of a case or cabinet. I can imagine someone opening an antique medicine cabinet and discovering these unusual collections. I choose shells, antique perfume bottles, and organic images to compliment the shapes of the glass vessels.
