Yelena Sidorova
Aurora, Colorado

Silk is the fabric of the soul. On it, Yelena Sidorova pours paint in colorful sheets that shimmer and glisten with emotion. The process of painting on silk requires a delicate approach. Yelena has the gentleness required to weave mysteriously provocative paintings. She says, “I transform the world around me: every drop of dye on silk is one drop of magic into my existence.”

Stunning painting with lots of detail! Even my other half noticed this painting immediately upon installation. I have two paintings that were installed in my family room that took him a full week+ to notice, but he noticed and commented on how much he liked this painting the first day. Thank you so much, we really love it!

Hi Yelena, I just received this stunning painting. It is so beautiful! I love how the background is muted as if it's out of focus and the birds stand out in relief. Wow! The colors are truly amazing. Thank you so much for taking extra care in the packing as well! Please tell me if there is something special that needs to be done to prevent the silk from deteriorating or if there are any maintenance issues I should be aware of. Thank you so much!

Hi Yelena- It was so nice to hear from you and Alfama.Lisbon and all of your "city/town paintings are beautiful. The two I have from you light up my room with color and interest and everyone who has seen them, loves them. I better not get another at the moment as I am running out of space. Thanks and I have no doubts that you will sell all of your fine paintings. Cheers, Frank

Yelena Sidorova 2/16/2015 | 4:12 PM

Dear Frank! Hope you are doing well and still enjoy my paintings! Just wanted to recommend you look at the painting in my collection, "Alfama. Lisbon. Portugal Vine." This painting was designed as a complementary painting for the Alfama painting that you already have in your collection. It is not necessarily a diptych, but if you still have space in your collection it may create a good addition to it! Thank you very much for your previous purchase. Cheers, Yelena

Today I received the second of Yelena's paintings and I am just as pleased as I was with the first. I chose another village scene, "Little Village in France" which had the blue effect and size that fit so nicely in my growing art room. Thank you Yelena and a Happy New Year to you. Cheers, Frank

Comments About This Piece

This piece is from my Cityscape series. I likes small towns, secluded streets, and old architecture. They inspire nostalgia about previous generations, events and cultures.

While painting, I always use the finest quality Chinese silk. When applied, liquid dyes and paints flow and move on silk in a way that is truly exhilarating to watch! In order to stop this movement, a material called a resist is used which not only stops the dyes from moving on the silk, but also creates an outline for what is being depicted, adding dramatic dimension. Once the painting is completed, the dyes are steam-fixed in order for them to become color-fast. This also causes the colors to become brighter and more intense. This piece is stretched, painted on the sides, and ready to hang.

Mixed media artwork

Mixed media refers to an artwork that is created using several different types of traditional art media, for example oil paint, ink and collage. The specific media used for each mixed media piece on UGallery is listed in the notes section.

Stretched canvas

Canvas is a heavy-duty fabric used as a painting surface. When a canvas artwork is labeled stretched, it means the canvas has been wrapped around a wooden frame (the ''stretcher''). Stretched canvases typically do not require framing.

One-of-a-kind

A one-of-a-kind artwork is a unique piece handmade by the artist. There is only one in existence. The work may be part of a series, however, the piece itself is unlike any other. This piece is available exclusively at UGallery.
