Recyclables is a reminder that our civilization is one in a long stream of complex civilizations that came to brilliant zeniths before quite suddenly dwindling, falling, or vanishing into extinction. Our technology, industry, and medicine do not protect us from the fact that we are still only human. In this piece I employ icons and patterns from the Aztecs and Stonehenge and meld them with symbols of modern technology and industry. This represents how little changed we are from our ancestors despite the comforts and advancements of contemporary living.

I created this piece using oil and acrylic paint, colored pencils, pastels, and clear gel medium on a pine board box support.
