Kathy Blankley Roman
Chicago, Illinois

Born and raised in Chicago, Kathy Blankley Roman has been making art of one kind or another as far back as she can remember. Her preference for an earthy palette reflects a connection she felt as a child to the prehistoric cave art of Lascaux. With a background in calligraphy and illustration, Kathy’s art took an entirely new direction in 2010 when she started painting abstract work and studying with arts educator and author, Steven Aimone. Kathy’s paintings have appeared in juried and small group shows nationally and online.

Comments About This Piece

What seas, what shores, what gray rocks and what islands What water lapping the bow And the scent of pine and the wood thrush singing through the fog What images return One of my favorite poems is Marina by T. S. Eliot. The images that his words evoke periodically appear in my paintings. This one was reworked many times for more than a year – making marks, painting, adding scraps of rice paper, dripping ink and painting again. After I decided to add the diagonal elements of purple and white, the words of the poem came to mind and the painting was finally resolved. This painting is on a gallery wrapped canvas with finished black edges. It comes ready to hang.

Mixed media artwork

Mixed media refers to an artwork that is created using several different types of traditional art media, for example oil paint, ink and collage. The specific media used for each mixed media piece on UGallery is listed in the notes section.

Stretched canvas

Canvas is a heavy-duty fabric used as a painting surface. When a canvas artwork is labeled stretched, it means the canvas has been wrapped around a wooden frame (the ''stretcher''). Stretched canvases typically do not require framing.

One-of-a-kind

A one-of-a-kind artwork is a unique piece handmade by the artist. There is only one in existence. The work may be part of a series, however, the piece itself is unlike any other. This piece is available exclusively at UGallery.
