Joey Korom
Chicago, Illinois

Joey Korom creates works with rectangular shapes and large areas of color. His abstract pieces contain no obvious subject matter except for subtle shapes and movement. Joey currently lives in Illinois and finds inspiration in the work of Richard Diebenkorn, Robert Motherwell and Abstract Expressionist painters. Fun fact: he was trained as an architect.

I am extremely honored to be chosen for Art in Motion 2014, a juried art exhibition and fundraiser for the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, February 6–13, 2014. "James Rondeau, Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art, The Art Institute of Chicago, selects exhibition participants and awards the most outstanding works submitted by hundreds of artists from around the country."

Comments About This Piece

"Abstract Painting 22" is an important and delicate work featuring a loose interpretation, indeed a serendipity of color fields, forms, and lines. Subtlety is the defining term for this very colorful, joyous work.

This painting is framed in the best tradition of Abstract Expressionist art; a fine, handcrafted and reinforced oak frame conveys modernity—honest simplicity—to the work and will compliment any art collection housed anywhere.

The painting is made of  acrylic paint, graphite, and oil pastel. It is varnished, framed, and wired to hang. The frame is hand-built red oak hardwood that measures 1.5 inches in depth and .25 inch thick.

Mixed media artwork

Mixed media refers to an artwork that is created using several different types of traditional art media, for example oil paint, ink and collage. The specific media used for each mixed media piece on UGallery is listed in the notes section.

Stretched canvas

Canvas is a heavy-duty fabric used as a painting surface. When a canvas artwork is labeled stretched, it means the canvas has been wrapped around a wooden frame (the ''stretcher''). Stretched canvases typically do not require framing.

A one-of-a-kind artwork is a unique piece handmade by the artist. There is only one in existence. The work may be part of a series, however, the piece itself is unlike any other. This piece is available exclusively at UGallery.
