Mary Pratt is an Atlanta-based artist who utilizes color and contrast to evoke emotions while provoking thought, both visually and conceptually. Her brush strokes are bold; her sense of color is magical. Mary arrives conceptually through ardent research of pertinent subject matter considering the work's final environment.
She determines color and aesthetics intuitively. The journey from her mind's eye to the soul's window could describe her process. Mary establishes an idea and creates an edge or an angle that perhaps the viewer may not have considered. It is important to her that the viewer's emotional response is enhanced and that one may find through observance of the piece, an alternative way of understanding the subject matter.
Her work is a part of Brenau University's permanent collection. Mary has recently completed a mural for the city of Atlanta. She designed a mural as part of community action program that strategically places artwork around the city of Atlanta. Mary has painted extensively in restaurants. Her work is held in many private collections.
