Jaime Ellsworth paints animals. Most subjects are her own but lately she has expanded out of her own corral to include bears and beasts not commonly seen on San Juan Island where she's lived for the last 30 years.
Her paintings are created of many layers of oil paint beginning with a limited palette of bold colors. Subsequent layers allow the under-paint to peek through and transparent glazes give the final surface a subtle tint.
With each work, she invites the viewer to look at the simplicity of the image, then beyond, opening a door to the imagination.
