Artist

Xinyu Zhang
Tucson, Arizona

The acrylic paintings of Xinyu Zhang start as a design on a computer. She pays special attention to composition, color, shadows and layer. On the computer, she works on an idea until she feels satisfied. She then prints the sketch and paints it on her canvas. Through this process, her paintings become related to graphic design, which is her current field of work when she's not making art. Fun fact: she once wrote a column for a Chinese newspaper, and has received her law degree.

Extremely happy with the painting. Looks even better in person. I would buy other work from this artist.

Comments About This Piece

Chinese classic poetry and ink paintings are my inspirations for this piece. I am also influenced by Miro and Kandinsky. My painting process involves a lot of waiting and watching. I paint the first layer with light grey ink and let it stand there to dry for days. Meanwhile I watch and think about the second layer. I paint the second layer with dark black ink. Then the same process happens again - waiting, watching, and thinking about the third layer, which is to add color to the piece. I finish the work by mounting the rice paper on matte board. The piece will require a frame for display.

Paper

Paper is a very common surface for all types of artwork, including photography, printmaking, drawing and painting. Art paper varies in thickness and color. Read the notes section to learn more about the paper used to create this artwork. If not noted as framed, most paper artwork will require framing.

One-of-a-kind

A one-of-a-kind artwork is a unique piece handmade by the artist. There is only one in existence. The work may be part of a series, however, the piece itself is unlike any other. This piece is available exclusively at UGallery.
