Anthony Christopher
Chicago, Illinois

Anthony Christopher enjoys exploring what he calls the “darker sides of the imagination.” To let his creativity take full flight, he approaches each blank piece of paper without a clear starting point. From there, his illustrations fill the page and leave no spot untouched. Even the negative spaces feel purposeful and whimsical. “I want people to have to take a close look to understand all the details and hopefully have an emotional connection with the drawings,” he explains. You can definitely get lost in his works – many of them mix words with intricate patterns you can’t see with just a quick glance. His mixture of surreal and abstract makes for eclectic and memorable artworks.

Thanks Jim. I certainly wish it was just a gimmick. Not every second is doom and gloom of course, and in some drawings there can be a bit of joy here and there. 3/26/2015 | 10:27 PM not sure if your "darkness" is gimmick or real...but everyone dies...not everyone truly lives. You have talent...I hope your around for a long time to share it. jim

Comments About This Piece

I previously did a small sketch of five faces called, "My Different Moods." I then took this idea and wanted to fill an entire page. The outcome was 110 faces on a single sheet of paper, organized slightly like skin cells. Some of the faces shown are rather sad, horrified, or completely oblivious. This piece is on heavyweight paper and will need a frame for display.

Paper is a very common surface for all types of artwork, including photography, printmaking, drawing and painting. Art paper varies in thickness and color. Read the notes section to learn more about the paper used to create this artwork. If not noted as framed, most paper artwork will require framing.

A one-of-a-kind artwork is a unique piece handmade by the artist. There is only one in existence. The work may be part of a series, however, the piece itself is unlike any other. This piece is available exclusively at UGallery.
