Teri Muse
Argyle, Texas

Teri Muse enjoys the ancient art of encaustic painting. The medium helps her create a unique surface quality and incredible depth. But the medium isn’t the most important part — it’s creating a connection between viewer and artwork. She strongly believes that artists can enrich lives through their works. “I strive to create those “magic” works that speak to others using the visual language of line, color and texture,” she explains. Fun fact: her studio is called “Red Zipper Studio” because she enters it through a six foot tall red zipper in a flexible wall.

Comments About This Piece

Yellow Field with Mesa is inspired by the west Texas landscape. I travel there at least once a year and love the wide open space and agricultural views mixed with mesas and canyons. I love the variety of landscape views in Texas!

This piece is an encaustic painting with a wonderful buildup of wax and a great surface, full of texture and that special encaustic glow. The piece is on a cradled wood panel with finished edges. It comes ready to hang.

Encaustic artwork

Encaustic painting, also known as hot wax painting, involves using heated beeswax to which colored pigments are added. The hot liquid/paste is then applied to a surface—usually prepared wood, though canvas and other materials can be used. Metal tools and special brushes can be used to shape the wax before it cools, or heated metal tools can be used to manipulate it once it has cooled on the surface. Other materials can be encased, layered or collaged into the surface, using the encaustic medium to adhere them to the surface.

A one-of-a-kind artwork is a unique piece handmade by the artist. There is only one in existence. The work may be part of a series, however, the piece itself is unlike any other. This piece is available exclusively at UGallery.
