Chris Weiermiller - San Francisco Treat
|
I am enamored with Chris's views of San Fransisco. There is a quiet, Hopperesque quality to the work. However, unlike Edward Hopper's paintings which often leave me with a feeling of emptiness, Chris's images portray a certain intimate side of San Francisco. They feel like leisurely weekend afternoons walking up and down the city's undulating streets or in its beautiful parks. There are moments when it is just you and the city.
Chris's palette perfectly captures the quality of the light I have come to associate with the bay area, and you can almost feel the cool breeze from the water. In general, I really enjoy watercolor work. There is a certain fun, spontaneous element, and yet unlike oil and acrylic painting, there is a permanence to every stroke. Chris achieves a wonderful balance between the two, creating thoughtful, seemingly impromptu snapshots of the city.
