Art has been a part of my life since I was a young child. As an adult, both of my professional careers have been based on creative skills and thinking. From 1983 to 1991, I worked as a horticulturist specializing in annual, perennial, and aquatic garden design and installation. Between 1991 and 2001, I followed my artistic urges into the culinary arts. I was Executive Chef of several well-known Italian and American restaurants. Over the past several years my focus has been on my family and I have enjoyed the role of “stay at home father.” Throughout all of these years, I have found relaxation in oil painting, making a serious commitment to develop fine art as my career since 2001. Experimentation, extensive reading/research, and classes and workshops with excellent instructors have enabled me to mature and discover my unique artistic voice.
Currently, my focus and motivation has come from exploring composition and the abstract aspects of representational art. The idea that an ordinary subject can be made extraordinary through modeling and arrangement is a compelling inspiration. Finding beauty in anything, just by looking deeper, brings more depth and dimension to the world. Major influences on my style have come from past artists such as Sargent, Degas, O’Keeffe, Dali, Hopper, and Friedrich as well as many contemporary painters.
I have so many ideas and inspirations that develop in the most unsuspecting situations that, even when I am not physically painting, I am mentally painting. To me, art is in everything and everything is in art. My goal for each work is to be able to express to the viewer what I see, even if she/he is not aware that she/he sees it. My goal for art is to continually expand, in style and in knowledge, with aesthetic harmony always in mind.

Hi, I love the piece, It is the first piece of art i have ever purchased. Do you have any suggestions as how too frame or display it? I was a little disappointed that it was not signed and dated by Bart on the back . I will certainly purchase again....Eddie Heussler

Mountain Woman, thank you so much for your kind words. As an artist it is such an inspiration to hear that viewers appreciate the work that goes into our creations. I I have a feeling you will enjoy After the Fall as much as I enjoyed painting it. As a side note I have always been partial to the mountains as my family has owned an island in the middle of the Adarondaks in NY. We have gone there every summer since the mid 70s. It always seems to refresh me.

Wendy, thank you for your kind words. Loving apples is great. I was a chef before returning to school so food is a common theme in my work. I will be posting several new works soon (I have to wait until December 1st after my portfolio review into advanced painting). Keep checking back! Thanks again.
