I've been interested in art since I was a small child. When I was little, my family had a collection of Norman Rockwell paintings that I loved to look through. I first started taking art classes when I was five. Since then, I've tried many styles and media and have taken up chalk pastel as my primary medium, although I also use oil and acrylic paint.
Pastel is an amazing medium because of its bright, vibrant colors, its soft texture, and its adaptability to a wide range of styles. I like how pastel is more direct and personal than painting because I use my hands instead of a brush.
My favorite subjects are landscapes and people, although I enjoy painting anything. I try to make all my paintings tell stories, using light, shape, and color to direct the viewer. I try to indicate action in a still painting so viewers can use their imagination to fill in the blanks from the context.
I work to constantly improve my art and explore many styles so I don’t create the same art over and over. Lately I've been trying to incorporate more impressionistic styles into my art. I’m also very interested in the psychology of color and shape and how they affect people.
