My artwork is a modern take on an abstract approach. I love to explore work that lends itself to a light & airy backdrop, with rich pops of color. I like to imagine my art in the individual's home, and create something I would want to hang in my own home. I create from a place of being inspired constantly by nature, commerce, and my everyday environment. I am always dreaming, thinking, and sketching the "next piece." The primary materials I use are acrylic, gouache, pencil, and ink on wood panel, canvas or paper. I sometimes incorporate a slightly more graphic, linear approach, and maybe include text or a collage element. I usually become obsessed with a particular object or pattern for a while, and continue to explore that theme. I have always been a creator and have dabbled in art all my life. In college, I thought I wanted to be a photographer and took several classes where I learned composition, and developed my artistic "eye". I began to pursue painting more seriously about 8 years ago, when my late husband Chris Underwood began pursuing it as well. We would often leave a room in our home filled with drop cloths and paint everywhere, so we could continue to create in our free time. Since his death, new life has come from me continuing to pursue my art career. My five children are a constant source of inspiration, and my husband now, Jacob Early has been an amazing friend who inspires me to pursue my dreams.
