Amy Early
Mooresville, North Carolina

In college, Amy Early thought she wanted to be a photographer. She took several classes where she learned composition, and developed her artistic "eye," before ultimately pursuing painting eight years ago. Working in layers, Amy paints until she sees the balance emerge and decides that the painting is where she wants it to be. She usually starts with an idea in mind, and very often finds herself with a completely new idea by the end. In her current work, Amy explores geometric shapes and various things that inspire her from nature. It is her intention to deconstruct them and present them in a completely new light. She uses light and airy backdrops, with rich pops of color that are pleasing to the eye. She sees her pieces as modern representations of abstract art. Fun fact: Amy is also a musician and songwriter at heart. Usually in every spare moment she has, she is practicing guitar or constructing songs.

Comments About This Piece

I painted this painting in tandem with a few other small abstract pieces that I was working on at once. I wanted to use similar color palettes and themes throughout, but allow each piece to be an individual one, and flow creatively.

This painting is on a cradled canvas board with finished white edges. It comes ready to hang.

This piece is currently on display at a designer showcase and will be available to ship in January, 2016. Contact us at for more information.

Acrylic painting

Acrylic paint was made commercially available in the 1950’s. Acrylic is a fast drying paint that can be diluted with water, but becomes water-resistant when dry. Acrylics can be applied in thin layers and washes to resemble watercolor paints, or they can be applied in thick layers, built up for texture. The main difference between oil and acrylic paint is the drying time. Oil dries slowly, allowing more time to blend colors and apply glazes. Artists who use acrylic paints typically work faster than those who use oils. Additionally, acrylics offer more versatility and are often used for mixed media work. Artists can mix different materials into the paint, such as sand or rice. They can also apply other media on top of the dried acrylic, such as pastel or pen.

Canvas board

Canvas board is a thin, flat panel of either particle board or cardboard wrapped in canvas. If not already framed, most canvas board work will require framing.

A one-of-a-kind artwork is a unique piece handmade by the artist. There is only one in existence. The work may be part of a series, however, the piece itself is unlike any other. This piece is available exclusively at UGallery.
